Founded in 1903, the club has been involved in the promotion of many types of motor sport since then.
The club was founded in 1903. During the period up to and post World War I the club was involved in organising hill climb and speed trials in South Wales. Between 1935 - 1939 the club organised the Welsh Rally.
Following the end of World War II the club worked with Vale of Glamorgan farmer Jack Evans to turn the part of the ex-air base at Llandow in to a motor racing circuit. Running numerous events during the 1960's and into the early 1970's. During this period SWAC also worked with other South Wales club organising hillclimbs and other events.
Through the 1970 - 1990 period SWAC focused mainly on rally events including the Dutton Foreshaw Cardiff Rally, a road rally and various single venue and mutli-venue stage rallies.
SWAC is probabley best known for the International Welsh Rally. An event that has run, with one or two breaks, since 1964. This event has had many notable winners including Roger Clark, Ari Vatanen and Hannu Mikkola.
SWAC is a member of the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs and an MSA Registered Motor Club.
